Short Report of Progress Achievements
2007
BACKGROUND
Education of Puntland state of Somalia aims the formation of a whole person equipped with a body of knowledge, attitude, value, skills and ethics which can be utilized for the benefit of individuals and society in large. Education tends to develop learners ability and deposition to reach their full potential and help learners cope with life in changing society, thrive in it and make worthwhile contribution its social development.
Therefore Puntland government is committed to achieve above outlined aims. As a result the major education achievements in the year of 2007 are segmented in to:
1. Access and equity to education
2. Quality of education
1. ACCESS EQUITY AND EQUALITY IN EDUCATION
It has been noted that, a remarkable school age children are out of school every year due to different reasons that includes; absence learning spaces, poverty, shortage of teaching staff and school distance. To deal with existing constrains the Ministry of education has worked out measure to tackle or reduce over the coming years such barriers Puntland education faces.
In the scholastic year 2005/2006, existing primary schools were in number 442 schools fully occupied that not left space for new enrolment children in the year 2006/2007. In connection of this 28 additional schools were constructed the most populated areas of the country which have accommodated 9080 new students. In addition to that twelve (12) schools either rehabilitated or added more classrooms to host more 324 new students. It also introduced double shifts to all primary in order to register more new pupils. The 470 schools are accommodating 90,091 students who attend formal Primary Schools while the number of students attending Non-Formal centers exceeds 7,117.
